WOMEN ARE FLOWERS

A LOVE STORY, IN A POEM.

This poem’s preamble comes from a page in my journal.  “Even a strong woman needs space to allow herself to be weak at times, to be able to break down in safety.  To be a flower that blooms again stronger after the storm, to be tended to in a garden that holds such a space to grow or to simply be.”

I wrote this romantic poem to go with a story thematic for ANGEL IN BONDAGE, but it can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone poem.  I imagine these thoughts to come from Zero’s subconscious, at a point in time much past the cruise mission.  That is, if Zero ever had such a poetic subconscious, hahah.

Once again, I’m writing this in nearly the same way I wrote it out by hand in my journal, which breaks the structure of traditional literature and perhaps poetry, too.  This way of writing simply makes the most sense to me in terms of authentic expression, and I’ll probably write more pieces that are freeform like this in the future.

WOMEN ARE FLOWERS

WOMEN ARE FLOWERS poem part 1-2 by AGENT ROSE (for Zero, AiB): I don’t think I’ve ever really seen it before, A genuine smile from you. Maybe a smirk here and there when you tease me, but never more than that Because you’re cold, aren’t you. I’m not surprised life has made you like that. I’m willing to bet that’s your shell, too. Your armor. But women aren’t meant to be so cold They are sensitive, feeling, beautiful And you are such a woman somewhere deep down. That’s what my gut says about you. You are a flower weathered by storms A flower that just needs more sun Have you forgotten what it’s like already? Just being able to feel warmth. No wonder you are so cold. It’s always been this way, hasn’t it? And you’re used to it. You’re used to the harshness of the storm, forced to grow under such enduring trials. There is still beauty to how you are now Crystalline ice that can no longer be broken, brilliant resilience Yet. I wish I could see you soften Just a bit Would your edges melt If I could be your sun? Would you breathe a little easier If I held space for you in my garden? Would you smile for real this time, for me, for yourself If I could be the one you call “home”?

WOMEN ARE FLOWERS [part 3-4] by AGENT ROSE for Zero, AiB: What do I have to do to support you, to be a man to you Not only because it is my duty, but because You are a woman in my care. I have been raised to tend to flowers And I have never seen a flower as beautiful as you I’ve created this space for you It is my duty to protect it for you To tend to the soil and provide A place you can always return to So I never see you like that again, So wounded that you could only drift between the clouds. One day, whenever you’re ready Whenever you’re willing Whenever you feel safe I’d be honored if you would let me take care of you But until then, I wouldn’t mind if you started teasing me again My position makes no difference Because when you tease me, it’s the closest I get to seeing you smile One day, I might see the real thing I would kill to see the real thing And I’m willing to fight to make it happen Because you’re the one who deserves to smile the most.

HE FELL FOR A FLOWER.

A page from my junk journal that I made look nice for you lot…

I designed Zero to have a love for women, hahah.  They are beautiful things to him.  It’s a healthy, respectful love; his mother raised him right while she was around, even if she was pretty strict.  The trouble with Zero’s love for women, though, is that they tend to love him back a little too much.  It’s his face, isn’t it.  That’s what being born conventionally attractive gets you, lots of shallow attention.

And it’s kind of too bad for Zero, who likes to flirt.  Because any time he flirts just for fun, he gets taken seriously, which is a bother for him.  So he has to hold back.  In realistic circumstances, I figure there’d be a pretty high chance that someone as visually appealing as him would have a bad personality, or be a player, or be underdeveloped in areas that aren’t appearances, but I’ve given him other flaws in AiB.

I feel like this poem reads like Chicken Soup for the Soul, too, just like the romantic oneshot I wrote between Zero and M a while back.  So if you’d like to get to know the ANGEL IN BONDAGE cast a bit better, I encourage you to give it a read.  And FYI, there are no set canon pairings yet.

Hope you’re all holding up alright today.  If not, I really do hope you give the oneshot a read, too. I wrote it when I was feeling down, so I hope reading it lifts your spirits, it’s super sweet.
