PREAMBLE
If you’re reading this, you likely have the attention span for my longform poems, which give me more room to tell a story than the shorter poems on my social media. This one is written for all those who are brave enough to still wear their heart on their sleeve in a world that at times, can be more cruel than beautiful.
If you are one of these special souls, I hope you stick around on this earth. Don’t ever let the world harden your heart. Stay wide open.
THE WORLD DESPERATELY NEEDS YOU
I know you’re a good person Because bad people don’t act like that. They don’t go around, Heart on their sleeve Loving everyone around them Everyone No exceptions As if nothing ever hurt them before. I know you’re a good person Because even though you smile at everyone That face has seen hardship I can tell. Because when you smile, There’s a trace of sadness in your brow A slight darkness underneath your eyes Are those glassy pupils from happiness, Or are you holding back tears? You know suffering That’s why you’re so kind, isn’t it. I know you’re a good person Because when your heart is wide open like that When everyone can see your soul like that It also means they can hurt you So, so easily They can hurt the most gentle parts of you Because you’re wide open. Yet, your heart is still on your sleeve You hide nothing and do it anyway Consistently breaking the rules In exchange for gashes at your heart But you don’t mind Because you know That someone out there Desperately needs what you have to offer So thank you Thank you for being one of the few In this world, Where everyone slowly shuts themselves away Thank you for being you And for keeping your heart wide open. AGENT ROSE
KEEP YOUR HEART OPEN
Witnessing raw vulnerability in another is exceedingly rare in a world that encourages distrust, so seeing someone brave enough to wear their heart on their sleeve is beautiful. Not everyone has the strength, or has done the inner work it takes to keep their heart open. It’s ironic that there is so much strength is to be found in our vulnerability.
AT YOUR SERVICE.
Your entire world, black
Yet you,
Fireworks in darkness.
– AGENT ROSE
This is a quoted part of another inspirational poem, written on the silent suffering of those around us and what we hold inside. It was written for intelligence agent Yiuna from my upcoming novel, ANGEL IN BONDAGE. You need no context of AiB to enjoy it, though having read the ANGEL IN BONDAGE chapters I have out will add depth to my standalone poems when you read them. The poem can be read here.
