PREFACE: A PERSONAL BRIEF

TO MY READERS

I’m still 51% to 49% on opening up about this, especially as a private person who would rather keep to herself.  Nonetheless, I’ve decided to share my story.

Why do I hesitate? Through the expression, you come to know the expressor. This story is my heart opening, and in short, that can be difficult.

After estrangement from my parents, I have been adding to this story every day. I have actively tried to resolve situations in my own life through prose, casting magic on problems and struggles to bring this miraculous inner world into being.

My characters have been with me for a long time, and have helped me navigate highs and lows in life. They are right by my side as I think about how to handle a life situation, which makes them exceptionally well-developed. Let’s hope I can do them justice in writing.

Look forward to art and short manga-style comics as well.  The characters’ concept art is still under heavy development; the art may take some time, so I encourage people to read.  The current art in each chapter is just what I have now, and the art will be even more stunning with time. I cannot guarantee a webcomic with how detailed my art style is; if you’ve seen my art, you know why.

The dealings of MI6 combine my love for humorous wit with the thrill of possibility that future technology brings. The novel is set in the near future to keep things exciting and believable – I want you to feel that this exists in our reality. I have done countless hours of plotting and research, but I’m releasing this as I go so that you won’t have to wait for a finished novel.

As with all stories, it’s a bit sad knowing that people can only experience it from their perception, since everyone interprets prose differently. Each individual will transform the story’s meaning for themselves, though I’m sure some will come close to my intention as well.

I’m too much of an empath and my energy can be drastically affected from feeling things too deeply, though this should benefit the story as you feel the highs and lows as I experienced them while writing this.

I’d be honored if you allowed me to cross paths with you, should you decide to read my take on Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service. Keep in mind that everything you’re reading is an imperfect draft that is subject to change until the novel is out.

ON COMMENTING REACTIONS VS. “FEEDBACK”

I find it hilarious that people somehow feel the need to critique writing and novels, but don’t critique webcomics at all. A webcomic was the alternative format for AiB I was considering (I’ll blog about potentialities later, so do sign up for the agent email list!). People simply enjoy comics, yet suddenly become big critics of writing.  Even if they themselves aren’t good at it.  I have no idea where that sense of entitlement comes from; perhaps it’s because plain text seems more serious.

But guess what?  I’m really not here to be critiqued by most readers.  This doesn’t mean I don’t take feedback; I do, and I have beta readers for that because that’s important for me and all writers.  But even then, all my beta readers really do for me is check on grammar and whether things make sense. That’s pretty much all I care for from them.  I could care less whether a reader likes or dislikes my story’s decisions and views.  I’m really not here to please people, I’m here to express myself freely.  It’s truly not an ego thing.  I realize that that may be different from other writers’ philosophies, and that that might set people off if they don’t understand, but I’ve sacrificed too much for this to give a damn.

With that said, leave whatever reactions you like!  Just know that you don’t have to feel the need to critique/give formal feedback on how I write or my decisions, since this seems to be a knee-jerk reaction for books.  That’s why I say “reactions”, because it shouldn’t have to be formal “feedback”.  I’d prefer you just treated this as if this were a manga or comic, something to have fun reading.  Just enjoy the ride.

  1. when you’ve said to me that the story would show a lot of strong womens, i didn’t understand that not only the characters but firstly the writer would be the most stronger and amazing woman i could imagine. I’m glad that you’re opening to tell your own history to us, and share how you feel about it. Your job (story, drawns and all creative things that you do) it’s not only amazing, it’s surreal and imperfectly perfect (this term i use to the 100% incredible jobs that not only are mechanically made, but full with heart and soul)!

    • Agent Joya, you’re too kind hahah, wasn’t expecting to read this! I know I’m not the only one out there with a bad past and normally don’t delve, but I think I will blog about it a bit in the future for those who are curious – I think it helps people understand AiB more and might make people in similar situations feel that they’re not alone. I’m just happy that you have an appreciation for what I do!

  2. I write my stories the same way honestly, though I don’t have any of my stuff posted up lol. I really think that writing is for the writer first and foremost a lot of the time. It’s good that other people enjoy it, but I wouldn’t bend over backwards to “fix” what people don’t like about it, because ultimately all my writing is done with the target audience of one person in mind. Me LOL

    • Exactly. I’ve given up too much to give a damn about what others think. If others don’t like it, they’re not my audience and there’s nothing wrong with that – the right people will come along.

  3. This literally made me tear up. I too write for the sake of expressing myself somehow through words because I am not brave enough to speak it out to someone. Thus my characters speak them for me. They become the sounds for my weapons. And indeed it is a sad reality that no-picture books such as novels gets critisized.. but if u aren’t aware or anything ( just info dumb ) even comics get critiques for their illustrations or drawings… but idk much abt it tho just a hunch… anyways I’d love to remain as part of AiB and be an agent forever!!! i swear on my marshmallow hearts to be there for the author and her ppl !!!

    keep fighting, love ♡
